There’s lots going on this February half term, and we’re here to help you make the most of the break, whatever the weather. Whether you’ve got children to keep busy or you’re carving out a little time for yourself, there’s something on our list to suit every mood.
From wildlife workshops and costume making to comedy evenings and movie screenings for just £1, we’re sure you'll find something to fill the days - and maybe try something new along the way.

The Museum at Candie Gardens is hosting a series of wildlife workshops, centered around the Wildlife Photography Exhibition. Throughout the week the museum will be filled with trails and interactive activities and there will be drop-in workshops, including marine-themed craft sessions and storytelling led by the Nature Commission and artist-led activities. Admission is free with a Discovery Pass. Find out more here.
The crafting community is having a moment, so unplug and do something creative. From life drawing and pottery throwing to candle making and crochet there are lots of activities to choose from. Guernsey Arts keeps an updated list of workshops and classes to browse for inspiration, with a wide range of activities on offer from designing & printing to jewellery making. There’s something for all ages.
There’s lots going on for kids during half term at the library and it’s all free. We could focus on the books but - whatever your age! - there’s so much more to explore. There’s crafting and sensory storytelling sessions for the kids, along with a costume making workshop, with volunteers from the Repair Cafe on hand to help alter and embellish your creations. With the kids entertained, you can browse the books, sit mindfully with a jigsaw, join a meditation session or visit the Fab Lab and get creative.
Get off the sofa and take in a film at the cinema. With bigger screens, better sound - and of course, popcorn! - it’s an easy way to escape for a couple of hours. Book your seats at The Mallard Cinema or enjoy a movie at Beau Cinema, which is screening two films a day over the half term week, with a a mix of new releases and old favourites and all for just £1. There are also a few autism-friendly options.
Keeping the little ones entertained on rainy days can be challenging - unless you know where to look! Oaty and Joey’s Playbarn and Le Friquet Garden Centre both have soft play areas and, if the weather is fine there’s always the pirate playground at Saumarez Park. For older kids, try crazy golf at Nineteen or indoor fun Iris and Dora. You can also stock up on materials for all ages at Craftwise or Creaseys Kids and get creative at home.
If you’d rather leave the cooking to someone else, half term is also a great excuse to enjoy a meal out. Whether it’s a relaxed lunch between activities, a family-friendly early supper or a catch-up over coffee and cake while the rain passes, there are plenty of welcoming spots around the island ready to refuel you. It’s the perfect way to turn a simple day out into something that feels like a treat.
Wrap up and embrace the fresh air. Whether you prefer walking or cycling, there are endless ways to explore our islands. Even if you’ve lived here all your life, there’s always a hidden corner to discover. If you feel like going further afield, take a boat trip to Herm - they've got a week of activities planned for you to enjoy. Spending time outside is a good way for kids to run off some of their energy and it’s chance for you to reset and return home feeling re-energised.
Guernsey Arts keeps a calendar of concerts, gigs, exhibitions, theatre performances and community events happening across the Bailiwick. Keep an eye on their listings for live performances and creative inspiration. St James also delivers a rolling programme of events, from comedy evenings to Motown nights. You’ll find details of their listings here.
Sometimes half term is about slowing down, so treat yourself to coffee or brunch with friends. But where to go? From casual cafés to classy hotels, we’re spoilt for choice. Whatever your style, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in our lists of Places To Have Brunch and The Best Coffee Shops in Guernsey.
Take a moment for yourself. Plan a solo date. Book a beauty treatment. Or go all out with a spa day at The OGH or St Pierre Park. Alternatively, creating a spa experience at home with music, candles, your favourite products and a good book can be just as restorative. Whatever your relationship status, the most important relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself, so don't neglect it. Doing things alone may push you out of your comfort zone, but that’s no bad thing. Here are some ideas to get you started.
