The Best Coffee Shops (and Tearooms) In Guernsey

There’s something special about taking time out of your day to relax and savour the moment with a great cup of coffee or a speciality tea. Whether you’re meeting a friend for a catch up, taking a solo moment to recharge, or you’re looking for someplace to settle and catch up on a work project, the experience is so much better when you find a welcoming spot where you can relax for a while, without making a meal of it - literally!

Yes, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants and bistros here in Guernsey, but if you're wondering where to go for a simple - or speciality - drink, this is the list for you. With a growing community of independent coffee shops and tearooms, there are lots of places around the island to choose from.

 

 

Mocca Coffee House

Mocca is a new favourite of ours - their ice matcha latte is a must! It’s situated in the Old Quarter and it’s well worth a stroll up to the top of Mill Street for its welcoming and cosy vibe inside, or to sit at a table outdoors on a sunny day. Its reasonably priced menu offers a selection of tempting wraps, sandwiches and bakes to accompany your drink of choice - we highly recommend the chocolate and banana bread!   

 

Bathing Pools Cafe

The The Bathing Pools at La Vallette is a great place to stop for a coffee and a snack, and of course, to take in the view of the castle and the islands beyond. A swim is optional, but come prepared or you might regret it if you don’t take the opportunity for a quick dip.

 

Renoir Tea Garden

Enjoy the tranquility of Moulin Huet at the Renoir Tea Garden, either as part of a cliff walk, a beach trip or just because! The view is spectacular and it's open 7 days a week, as long as the sun is up. The tea is handcrafted locally by apothecaryguernsey and there's an inspired selection of snacks to choose from.

 

Fermain Valley Tea Rooms

Situated in the heart of the valley, the Fermain Valley Tea Rooms is ideally situated for a cliff walk or a stroll through the lanes, finishing off with a coffee or a tea of your choice and a slice of homemade cake. The views from the terrace are stunning on a sunny day, or if it’s chilly out you can enjoy cosy vibes in front of the open fire. 

 

Mylk

Mylk, short for MY Little Kiosk, sits by the old market buildings in Market Square. It’s ideal if you’re on the move and looking for a coffee to go, or want to make a short stop in the heart of Town to watch all the comings and goings. For a small kiosk they punch above their weight with their selection of wraps, crepes and paninis - and the coffee is good too, of course.  

Cliff Top Coffee Shop

The Cliff Top Coffee Shop at Jerbourg point has a dessert bar - need we say more? There’s an extensive range of homemade cakes and pastries to choose from, served up to with locally roasted Bean 14 coffee or a selection of speciality teas. It’s an ideal stopping place for walkers to recharge with an uplifting drink after a cliff path walk. Or you can just head straight for the cake - no judgement on our side. 

 

Woodies

You can choose from a few Woodies kiosks located around the island at Bordeaux - our personal favourite, with the views out over to Herm - Chouet or at the bus terminus in Town. Or pop in to sit for a while in the Woodies coffee shop in Town or in St Martins. Even if you don’t want to go out, You can even recreate your favourite coffee at home with a bag of Woodies blend coffee beans. 

 

Cobo Tea Room

When we’re over on the West coast, we like to drop into the friendly, family run Cobo Tea Room for a coffee. With generous portion sizes and the fact that all of the cakes are freshly baked in-house, it’s best to get in early to avoid disappointment. They also offer a “cake-away” service. One for now and one for later, then? Obviously.

 

Café des Amis

If you want to combine your cake with some shopping out of Town, the café in Le Friquet Garden Centre makes for an easy one-stop outing, with lots of parking and an opportunity to browse before you grab a welcome cup of coffee. It’s a great choice for those of you with little ones, as they can have fun in the play area whilst you enjoy your cuppa. 

 

Costa Coffee

Costa is the only coffee shop chain you'll find in Guernsey, and with its extensive and recognisable range of coffees, coffee over ice and frappés it’s reasonably priced and you know what you’re getting. the Town venue is compact inside, so maybe more of a takeaway option, but Costa on The Bridge is more spacious if you're over that way.
