Your Ultimate Easter Break Guide

From egg hunts to art shows (and everything in between) there’s lots going on in the Bailiwick over Easter, and we're here to help you make the most of your free time, with ideas for slowing the pace and making a little time for you, too.

Hop Over to Sark

Sark has lots of egg-citing events lined up over the Easter weekend, with special ferry rates to help you enjoy the fun for less. There’s Easter egg hunts, face painting, arts and crafts and model boat racing on the Duck pond for the kids - young and old! Adults are catered for too, with live music, a meat draw and the opening of the Bailiwick Wildlife Exhibition.

Discover The Big Eat Festival

The inaugural Big Eat Guernsey festival is running throughout April, with themed foodie experiences unique to the Bailiwick. Outdoor events include open-air tastings, gourmet e-bike tours and foraging expeditions. ‘Meet the Locals’ events are designed to celebrate local flavours, producers and chefs, and you can also explore fine dining options, or savour French flavours at the Breton Market.

Spend Time in the Garden

Whether you’re an avid gardener or just starting out with a few pots by your front door, this is the ideal time of year to get stuck into a bit of gardening. If you’re tempted to grow your own flowers this year, take a look at these top tips to get you started and support Guernsey’s pollinators along the way with this list of Cut Flowers We Can Share With Guernsey's Bees. If you’d rather browse than grow your own, pop along to the Victorian Walled Garden at Saumarez Park.

Take Part in an Egg Hunt

Enjoy an Easter Family Fun day out at Les Caches Farm, with face painting, crafts and egg hunts in the grounds. The Deerhound is also hosting an Easter Garden Party with a bouncy castle, egg hunt and a chance to meet some bunnies. There are also egg hunts at Le Pommier and at St Saviour’s Community Centre. If you want to travel further afield, you’ll also find Easter egg hunts in Herm and Sark. In Alderney, they’re doing things a little bit differently with a family fun Chicken Run event.

Dive In for a Sea Swim

Yes, the water is still cold, but there’s a whole community of local sea swimmers who will tell you how good you will feels after you’ve taken the plunge in the waters around the Bailiwick. And you can always warm up with a Hot Haus or Rock Box sauna, or a hot cup of tea at The Bathing Pools or one of the many kiosks dotted around the island. Our list of sea swimming spots can help you choose the right location for your swim - with a mini-list of tips to keep you safe in the water.

Make Time For a Solo Date

With a solo date, there’s no pressure to please other people and you'll spend your precious free time doing something that you really want to do. Doing things alone may push you out of your comfort zone, but that’s no bad thing. In fact, it’s a great way to build confidence and clear your mind. If you’re looking for inspiration, these Solo Date Ideas are a great place to start.

Enjoy a Spa Experience

Escape from the pressures of everyday life by booking yourself in for a relaxing treatment at one of the many salons here on the island, or go all out and enjoy a luxurious spa day at The Old Government House Hotel & Spa or St Pierre Park Hotel. Alternatively, you can always create a spa experience in your own home, taking all the elements of a spa day* and DIY-ing it… set the mood with soft lighting and scented candles then draw yourself a warm bubble bath, stick a face mask on, maybe even a hair mask and enjoy.

Visit an Exhibition

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is on show at Guernsey Museum in Candie Gardens until mid April, so there’s still time to pop along if you haven’t seen it already. Or you can drop into Pink Granite : Wild Flower art exhibition, which celebrates the distinctive landscape of Port Soif. Another option is the Making an Honest Living exhibition. It’s a celebration of the Island’s growing industry, curated by Guernsey born painter and printmaker Emma Griffin.

Go Out for a Walk

With spring in the air, there’s no better time to get out for a walk to  explore the many beautiful places on our islands. With stunning views around every corner, you can choose to walk the coastal paths, hike the cliff paths or wander inland through the Ruettes Tranquilles. We recommend you make the most of the scenery with a coffee stop enroute - cake optional!. If you’re looking for inspiration try one of these hiking routes or a National Trust trail. Even if you’ve lived in Guernsey all your life, you'll find something to surprise you.

Drop into the Library

There’s lots going on at the library and it’s free. We could focus on the books but - whatever your age! - there’s so much more to explore. There’s crafting and sensory storytelling sessions for the little ones, flower making and badge making sessions for teens. While the kids are entertained, you can browse the books, sit mindfully with a jigsaw, join a meditation session or visit the Fab Lab and get creative.
