5 Achievable Lifestyle Goals To Set This January

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. Forget lifestyle overhauls and extreme regimes, it's the little things that count when it comes to wellness. It’s tempting to take an all or nothing approach in January. The whole New Year, New Me and all that. If it works for you, that’s great, but for most of us the expectations are too high and we set ourselves up to take a fall.

So, we’ve come up with some lifestyle goals you can easily take on board in the New Year that will help you to feel great without overwhelming you.

Goals

1.  Crowd Out The Bad Habits

Rather than a radical reboot, why try the crowding out approach to a healthier lifestyle. Taking an all or nothing approach works for some things, but with it comes pressure. Crowding out literally means to force something out of place by filling its space with something else. If you eat more vibrant, fibrous, green veg with your dinner, you’ll have less of an appetite for dessert. It can apply to all aspects of wellness - by simply giving more space to good habits, you will naturally crowd out the bad ones and they will feature less in your life. Say, if you want to read more and watch a little less Netflix - find a balance. You don't have to quit anything. You just need to make space for the things you want in your life.

2.  Bring On The Healthy Habits

A good place to start is with our 6 Healthy Habits To Feel Better Now. Sometimes we unintentionally fall out of good habits and we need a nudge to get back on course. From drinking more water to moving more, eating more fruit and vegetables or improving your sleep routine, these  prompts are simple steps you can take today to get back on track. And it’s not all about sacrifice… number 6 on the list, our favourite, is a reminder to Treat Yourself.  Start the year as you mean to go on and make sure to include some me-time in your week - every week!

3.  Embrace Sober Curiosity

Sober curiosity is all about choice. It’s about making conscious decisions around alcohol that work for you and it symbolises a move away from the all or nothing approach, with more and more people rejecting the notion that nights out have to revolve around drinks. This is reflected by the growing number of celebrities and wellness influencers speaking about their alcohol free lifestyles and the growing choice of quality alcohol free alternatives that have become available in bars, restaurants and shops in recent years. So if you are feeling the effects of the excesses of the festive season, questioning your alcohol intake, or maybe you simply feel it’s time for a reset, start your year by taking a look at What It Means To Be Sober Curious.

4.  Live More Sustainably

When it comes to living more sustainably, lots of small changes can have a big impact on our wellbeing, our local environment and can ultimately change the world we live in for the better. Make this the year you adopt a more sustainable approach to living with 5 Ways to Live a Greener Life in Guernsey. Switch up your transport, waste less food, shop local… the list goes on! A favourite of ours - living a greener life by connectingmore with nature. By planting pollinator patches or turning over some of your garden to wildflowers you can give Mother Nature a hand to preserve natural green spaces... and cut down on the gardening chores at the same time!

5.  Out With The Old

After the excesses of the festive period, January always seems like a good time for a clear out. Not so much spring cleaning, more Simple Ways To Declutter Your Home. We’re not suggesting full-on minimalism here (unless that’s what you want!). We’re talking being more organised and getting rid of the clothes, books and homeware items that have been sitting in a cupboard, unused and unloved for far too long. If they no longer bring you joy, why are you holding on to them? This list will help you to get organised and take back control of your home. With just a few quick wins, you will start to feel the benefits of a less cluttered sock drawer or a more organised bathroom cabinet and you will be on your way towards a simpler lifestyle. Sounds like a win-win to us.
