Gill, Relationship Manager at Locate Guernsey, shares her wellbeing essentials.
I found the Leaders Engaged Leadership Programme to be incredibly insightful, as it helped me reconnect with my ‘Why’ - understanding the purpose behind what I do and what genuinely makes me happy. For me, it’s all about connecting people! While I might not always have the answers, I usually know someone who does. I always enjoy meeting new people, and you can often find me attending one of the island's fantastic networking events. With family and friends scattered across the globe, I’m never far from a conversation, no matter the time zone!
I recently travelled to a work event in the UK, and while some might dread the long commute, I actually look forward to a few uninterrupted hours with a good book and a coffee. I couldn’t do it every day, of course! Right now, I’m reading How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, and I often find myself asking at the beginning of business meetings ‘What’s everyone reading at the moment?’
For many islanders, swimming is a key part of well-being. For me, it’s more than just a dip in the water - there’s something truly special about swimming while watching the sun rise behind Herm from the ladies' pool. I’m also drawn to the sense of community that sea swimming creates; it’s another way to connect with others!
Food plays an important role in my wellness. We’re lucky to have so many incredible restaurants on the island, and I love telling people that we don’t have a fast-food culture here. Instead, we’re spoiled with a variety of independent dining options, from beach kiosks to top-notch restaurants. I have a favourite spot for each night of the week, depending on my mood!
I should’ve picked up this t-shirt when I saw it in Edinburgh. I’m known for my positivity, and my daughter once said ‘Mummy’s always singing, even when she doesn’t know all the words!’ I think that’s a pretty accurate description of me. A positive mindset keeps me open to new possibilities and changes. Recently, I had dinner with friends who were complaining about the miserable weather. I pointed out that the mornings were getting a little brighter earlier and the days were getting a little longer. Let’s just say, my optimism wasn’t exactly appreciated in that moment - but hey, there’s a time and a place!
