Gemma Ainger, founder of the My Breast Friend app, shares her wellbeing essentials with us.

1. Daily Movement
30 minutes of daily movement can reduce the risk of health issues, as well as – in my case - reduce the chance of cancer recurrence. I’m not a huge fan of exercise, but this stat made me sit up! Walking my dog is now a key part of my routine - good for my heart and my mind.
2. Treasure Hunting
Seaglass hunting became my therapeutic escape during COVID. Searching the beach for “Mermaid Treasure” will forever be my favourite way to clear my mind and regain balance. My daughter now loves it too, which is a lovely way to spend time together.
3. Positive Thinking
I’ve been a big believer in positive thinking all my life - but it really did dominate my world when breast cancer came along. It’s the magic ingredient for living happy. Whatever nonsense is going on in your world, always find the positives. It’s a much better than the alternative.
4. Find Your Happy
It’s so important to focus on the things that make you happy. We only get one life, so make sure happy feelings outweigh anything else.
5. Routines That Matter
Regularly checking in on my boobs. It’s highly likely that I could have spotted my breast changes sooner if I’d been paying attention. I have to live with this. It’s why I created the My Breast Friend reminder app - paying attention could one day save your life.
