Love it or hate it, there is just no escaping the rain in Guernsey at this time of year. If you’re lucky you just might be a pluviophile - a rain lover who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days. But for most of us, the rain is a pain! So, we thought we’d help you appreciate the wet weather by pulling together a playlist of our favourite rainy day songs.
Search out these tunes, turn up the volume and celebrate the rain with these fabulous rainy day songs.
Picture the scene. You’re from Glasgow, so you decide to head off on a winter break for some much needed sunshine… and it rains nonstop for two days! Most of us would be tempted to just cry into our beer, but Travis frontman Fran Healy took inspiration from the grim weather and wrote one of the band’s biggest hits.
She’s good, but not even Adele could pull this off… could she??
What’s your favorite cover of this song? It was a hit for Tina Turner, there’s the soulful version in The Commitments or do you prefer the Eruption disco remake? We’re spoilt for choice.
Banish the rainy day blues by turning up the volume and belting out this banger from The Weather Girls. Go on, take the challenge! We bet you can’t listen to this tune without singing along and dancing around your kitchen. “God Bless Mother Nature, she’s a single woman too....”
You can almost hear the rain in this song, it’s so atmospheric. We love the song, but the movie not so much unless you are a truly devoted Prince fan.
This is one of those songs that you can’t quite remember, and the same goes for the artist, Billie Myers. Who?? And then the song starts and you’re like… oh yeah, I remember that! Try it, you’ll see what we mean.
What a combination! It’s so true, rainy days and Mondays always get us down too! This Carpenters number comes with a “blues warning”... if you’re not loving your 9 to 5 it might be best to avoid this one.
This Guns and Roses classic is almost nine minutes long - and that’s the edited version, it was originally 25 minutes. That would cover a rainy day drive along the West coast… and back again!
This classic track from The Cult will take you straight back to the 80s! Back to the days when Islanders of a certain age would happily pass time on a rainy day browsing through albums in Number 19… the record shop, not the Golf Bar and Grill. These days Vinyl Vaughan's is the place to shop for your rainy day “records”.
We’re finishing off with this song and yes, we know, it’s more about love, friendship and support than the weather but we couldn’t resist planting that “ella, ellla, ellla” earworm in your head… sorry, that’s going to be stuck with you all day!
