In partnership with The Health Improvement Commission
It can be all too easy to overindulge at this time of year, and even with the best of intentions it can be difficult to find tasty and tempting alternatives to alcohol on a night out, whether you want a dry evening or just want to pace yourself during the festivities. Luckily, your options in Guernsey just opened up.
The The Health Improvement Commission has joined forces with local bar, Mojito, to launch a menu of mocktails to give you a selection of fun and festive non-alcoholic drinks so you won't feel that you're missing out and you don't have to settle for endless fizzy soft drinks.
Whether you're choosing not to drink or simply want to reduce your alcohol intake in line with the Commission's Count 14 Campaign, you can order from a choice of fancy mocktails at the bar in Mojito and keep your drinking within the recommended guidelines over the festive period.
They have shared their recipe cards with us, so you can recreate their mocktails at home too. Take a look at our favourites below.
You will need: ½ lime for the muddled lime, 8 mint leaves, 50ml of apple juice and 20ml of soda.
Muddle the lime juice with mint leaves in a small jug, crushing the mint with a rolling pin as you go. Pour into a glass and add some crushed ice. Pour in the apple juice over the icy mix and top up with soda. Garnish with a mint leaf.
You will need: 50ml of fresh raspberry puree, 150ml of cranberry juice, 25ml of lime juice and 25ml of sugar syrup.
Using fresh raspberries, crush or blend the fruit into a puree. Pour in the cranberry juice and sugar syrup. Squeeze a lime to extract the fresh juice and pour into the mixture. Top with ice, shake and serve.
You will need: 50ml of Seedlip Gin 0%, 150ml of pineapple juice, 25ml of lime juice, 25ml of grenadine or sugar syrup and a dash of bitters.
Mix together the Seedlip Gin, pineapple juice and grenadine. Squeeze a lime to extract the fresh juice and pour into the mixture. Add a dash of bitters and serve with ice.
You will need: 150ml of pineapple juice, 50ml of passion fruit juice (made from approx 200g of passion fruit), 15ml of vanilla syrup and 25ml of either lemonade or ginger juice.
Scoop out the passion fruit into a strainer and press through until only the seeds are left. Using the passion fruit juice, mix in the pineapple juice and vanilla syrup. Add in a handful of ice and shake well. Top up with your choice of ginger juice or lemonade.
