5 Things To Do This Week

We've got quite a selection for you this week including Sunday shopping, Winter Solstice reflections, Life Drawing classes and Christmas Carols... oh, and 9 Brunch recommendations - there's something for everyone!

1.  Bonus Sunday Shopping

If you don't manage to pop into Town this Thursday, 17th December, for the last Late Night Shopping event of the year, don't worry.... there's a bonus shopping day in St Peter Port this Sunday, 20th December to buy those last minute gifts.

The Christmas Market stalls will still be trading inside the Market Building, with lots of local stall holders trying to tempt you with their hand crafted ceramics, unique soft furnishings, antique jewellery, festive food and so much more.

2.  Christmas Carols and Classical Music

If you're all shopped out and looking for something less commercial to get you in the Christmas mood, why not join the Guernsey Choral & Orchestral Society for an evening of traditional music and Christmas carols at St James this Friday 18th and Saturday 19th December.

This event promises to be atmospheric and full of classical favourites, and the Children's Choir from the Guernsey Music Service will also be on stage to add to the festivities.

3.  Celebrate the Winter Solstice

Monday 21st December is the the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year.  Beinspired Yoga is running a class to celebrate this day, offering a moment to pause and to reflect backwards before looking forwards.  With candles flickering and soft music, this restful and nourishing class will weave together various yogic tools including breath awareness, gentle asana (postures), mudras (gestures) and Yoga Nidra (deep guided relaxation).

All are welcome to the drop in session at St Martin's Community Centre, from 6.15pm - 7.30 pm.  The class costs £12 for drop-adults and £7 for drop-in students.  Bring along a mat and blanket... maybe a cushion and some woolly socks too, so you can truly relax!

5. Start planning for 2021

If your thoughts are wandering into next year and you're thinking of ways to make your wellbeing a priority or planning some me-time, here's a suggestion... why not book up some life drawing classes?

Drink and Draw Guernsey is a life drawing club that meets every Wednesday from 6.45 - 9pm upstairs at the Golden Lion for a laid back evening of creativity.   One of their main objectives is to promote body positivity through drawing nude figures in various poses, and the class provides people from all backgrounds with a relaxed atmosphere to get creative.

All abilities are welcome, and no experience is needed - in fact novices are positively encouraged!

To register interest for the 2021 classes email grupping.art@gmail.com or visit the group's Facebook page to find out more.
