Before writing in a journal myself, you'd never have convinced me that it could change my outlook on life, but boy did it! Not only does it help you appreciate the joy in your life (which we often overlook with our own negativity) but it encourages a daily positive affirmation and helps you understand why others in your life behave the way they do.
This is one I regularly say to my children. Permit yourself to feel your emotions - you're human, it's in your DNA - but don't let them control your life. Feel your anger, but don't become an angry person. Feel your sadness, but don't become someone who cannot see the joy. Feel your envy, but don't become the person who cannot share in another's successes. Coping mechanisms are different for everyone; find what works for you and trust in it.
