Love Local with The List: Sam Le Compte Massage

In the run up to Small Business Saturday we are supporting local small businesses by sharing their stories with you.

Whether you’re looking for pain relief or relaxation, you’re in good hands with Sam. A caring profession was always part of her plan, having seeing first hand when she was young how her mum benefited from treatment. When she discovered she was too squeamish for nursing, she turned to therapeutic massage and aromatherapy before settting up her massage business here in Guernsey a few years ago.

Here's Sam's story...

How It All Began

I have been interested in health and wellbeing ever since I was little and went to the physio regularly with my mum. She has rheumatoid arthritis and I could see how she benefited from the care she was given. I studied nursing at uni but it turned out I was too squeamish for that so I trained in therapeutic massage and aromatherapy. I didn't practice straight away and my life took many twists and turns before I came full circled and retrained a few years ago. I set up Sam Le Compte Massage and I haven’t looked back since.

My Treatments & Clients

I offer therapeutic massage and hot stone massage. I often use the stones in both treatments. I use a combination of trigger point therapy, hands and stonework. My treatments are not painful, but I do tend to search out areas of tension with the intention of releasing them. I love using hot stones in my treatments, feeling the heat in my hands and how they warm and soften the tissues allowing me to work more deeply. I get a lot of positive feedback about the stones. People always comment on how great they feel.

People tend to come to me with chronic pain or discomfort. I see a lot of people with neck and shoulder pain or lower back pain. Others come because they want to prevent pain and keep their bodies functioning optimally. Many just come because they benefit physically and mentally from regular treatments, it’s a great opportunity to unwind and reset.

Highlights, Challenges & Giving Back

The best bits have been the friends I have and the support I have had along the way. Moving to Styx has also been a positive step, going full-time and having such a lovely peaceful space to work from with such a great community feel. I’m also lucky to work next to Clare Pettitt Chiro and Cranio, our treatments really compliment each others.

And challenges? Getting to grips with social media and learning how to market my business has been tough! I still have a lot to learn, but it’s getting easier.

I lost my dad to cancer, so I like to support Les Bourgs Hospice for all the great work they do. We enter '30 Bays in 30 Days' every year. I bake cakes for 'Food for Friends' and I did a massage fundraiser for them last year.
