Here at The List we pride ourselves on encouraging you to live life well and embrace all things local. So when we heard about A Table in Guernsey, the Bailiwick’s newest food festival, we immediately wanted to know more - and share the highlights with you!
It’s taking place at various venues across the island, and it’s an opportunity to celebrate the best of the local artisan food and drink scene with tasting sessions, tours, market stalls and visiting chefs showcasing all things local.
The festival is running from 4-12 October 2024 and you can find the full programme of events here. But first, here are some of the events we’ve picked out to give you a taste of what’s on offer.
Chantal, Founder of A Table In Guernsey
Saturday 5 October 2024 at The Bathing Pools
The top garden area at The Bathing Pools is a great spot for the festival’s Farmers Market. When you’re not gazing out at the view over Havelet you can browse the many stalls stocked with local produce made by artisans, food producers and hedge veg stall holders selling fruit and veg, baked goods and so much more. There will also be a guest chef on hand selling their creations. Best of all, the proceeds from the Farmers Market will be distributed to local charities.
These tasting events get to the heart of the island’s heritage, giving you a behind the scenes look at how locally grown produce is transformed into high quality food and drink. You’ll meet the makers, who will share their passion and maybe a few trade secrets on how they make their crisp ciders and craft gins… which leads neatly on to our top picks of the Producer Tasting events:
Rocquette Cider Tasting, on Tuesday 8 October 2024 at Les Caches Farm | Food by Le Gouffre
CI Liquor Company Tasting, on Wednesday 9 and Friday 11 October 2024 at Dhaka
You’ll find the complete list of the Producer Tasting events here.
Thursday 10 October 2024 at Market Square
Market Square will be transformed into foodie heaven with lots of local restaurants setting up stalls at the Street Food Festival to serve you some of their signature dishes, street style! Chefs from Fukku, Muse, The OGH and Cooked by James Ferguson will be there, to name but a few, along with a welcome appearance from Octopus. There’s also a special guest coming in from the UK - Spudman.
Chantal, Founder of A Table In Guernsey
There are several dinner events, featuring guest chefs who will share their culinary talents and work their magic with fresh Guernsey produce. A treat for local foodies. There are several Dinner Events to choose from. The one we’re looking forward to the most is the inter-island challenge.
Guernsey V Jersey, on Friday 11 October at The Duke of Richmond
Three chefs from Jersey are coming over to compete against three chefs from Guernsey, and each team will be preparing an eight course tasting menu - which will be served with a scoring card! The chefs will create their dishes using the finest local produce - with a few Jersey ingredients thrown in for good measure!
The festival is running from 4-12 October 2024 and you can find the full programme of events here.
