5 Ways To Well with Steve Byrne

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne shares his 5 wellbeing essentials.

1.  Family Time.

Family for me isn't just those I love dearly but extends to my friends and it is so important to me that every day is spent with those I am close to.

2.  Rewarding Vocation.

I am incredibly blessed to be working for the GSPCA and be involved with so many other great causes and organisations, from the Association of Guernsey Charities to the Freemasons. With so many roles, including animal welfare work, helping animals and helping to give back to the community keeps me incredibly busy, but being involved in this work and helping our community is hugely important to me.

3.  Being Outside.

I cycle at least 100 miles every week, often with my youngest son with me, and I walk as often as I can. Much of my role throughout the day at the GSPCA is office based and in meetings, so I’m sitting down a lot, and I live on site. So an important ‘way to well’ for me is using my legs to get around whenever I can get out and about to enjoy our island.

4.  Animals.

Animals are an integral part of my life, from our own family pets and those we help at the GSPCA, to the incredible array of both wild and domestic animals we have around the island. Helping 1000's of animals every year with our incredible team and also helping share knowledge to other charities to help others really warms the heart and is incredibly important to me.

5.  Travel.

Whether that be cycling or walking right on our doorstep around our stunning island, visiting family back in Wales and Sheffield, visiting other animal charities, family trips, Freemason visits, or opportunities to see friends - to some things from my past such as tall ship volunteering - travel creates the most special memories. And of course, there are always plenty of photos and videos along the way… anyone who knows me will tell you I love a photo and a selfie!
