5 Ways To Well with Dani Higgs

Dani, from KTea & Counter Cultures, shares her 5 wellbeing essentials.

1.  Connecting With My Food.

Connecting with my food has been a transformative journey. By sourcing real, homegrown (or Soil Farm grown) ingredients and processing them myself, I avoid the ‘supermarket meltdown’ and deepen my relationship with food. This passion inspired me to create Counter Cultures, a workshop business dedicated to countering the modern food culture by culturing foods on our kitchen counters. Through events like Probiotic Pickle Parties, I teach the art of fermentation, blending science, tradition, and creativity.

2.  KTea As A Pick-Me-Up.

My kombucha journey began 12 years ago in Australia, and while I’ve sampled brews worldwide, nothing compares to the flavour of KTea. For nearly five years, I’ve been proudly making and selling this local, 100% natural kombucha, founded by Kate Attieh. With a five-week fermentation process, KTea stands out for its distinct flavour and probiotic benefits, transforming caffeine and sugar into energizing B vitamins.

3. Yoga.

Nearly 20 years ago, I took my first yoga class, and it has since become an essential part of my daily life. Yoga helps me tune into my body, quiet my mind, and be fully present. For years, savasana was my only moment of true calm and I still treasure the fresh perspective of a downward dog. When I focus on my breath and the alignment of my body, my to-do list fades away, and I’m fully present. I’m grateful for the incredible yoga teachers on the island, many of whom are dear friends.

4. Breathwork.

I once thought I was practicing breathwork in yoga, but discovering consciously connected breathing with Runa Breath opened a whole new dimension of wellness. Drawn to self-exploration, I’ve gained profound insights and a tool to calm my nervous system. On my gut-health journey, I’ve learned stress can undermine even the best nutrition, and deep belly breathing bridges the body, mind, and spirit, grounding me in the present and restoring a sense of wholeness.

5. Dance, Laugh, Sing, Swim, Hug…

In pursuit of happy hormones, you’ll often find me dancing, singing, or frolicking on the headland after school drop-off - yes, I’m that weirdo! I love bear hugs, belly laughs with friends, and soaking up Guernsey’s natural beauty. Returning here as a new mum over seven years ago gave me a deep appreciation for the island’s easy access to the sea - a full-body hug from Mother Nature. I make it a priority to dive into this free healing experience whenever I can.
